Read that as a weather benefit as much as a convenience one. A theme park, a mall, a cinema, an aquarium, and a lakeside walk are all reachable without crossing an open road in August heat or January wind.
It also makes a split day realistic. Families with small children can go back at lunchtime, rest, and return in the afternoon, which is awkward from a hotel several subway stops away.

Subway access to Gangnam and central Seoul
Jamsil Station serves Lines 2 and 8. Line 2 is the loop that ties the southern half of the city together, which is the practical advantage here.
Samseong and COEX, Gangnam, and Hongdae all sit on that loop with no transfer. Samseong is a few stops west; Hongdae is on the far side of the loop and is a long ride.
The palace district is a different trip. Gyeongbokgung, Bukchon, and Insadong take at least one transfer from Jamsil, so check a route app for the current journey time before you decide this is close enough.
