Before anything else, check which terminal your airline uses: as of January 2026, Asiana, Jin Air, Air Busan, and Air Seoul moved to Terminal 2, joining Korean Air, Delta, Air France, and KLM there, while most other international carriers still use Terminal 1. Two questions decide everything else.
Which terminal? Incheon has two passenger terminals in separate buildings, linked by a free shuttle and the airport railway.
It matters here because AREX takes a few minutes longer from Terminal 2 (the farther station), and the airport buses use different boarding stands at each terminal.

Where are you staying? "Seoul" is huge.
The right transfer to a Hongdae guesthouse is not the right transfer to a Gangnam hotel or a Bukchon hanok. Use the table below to find your first option, then read that section for detail.

Option 1: AREX Express (non-stop to Seoul Station)
The AREX Express train runs non-stop between Incheon Airport and Seoul Station: about 43 minutes from Terminal 1 and about 51 minutes from Terminal 2. It has reserved seats, dedicated luggage space, and, because it is on rails, it is immune to road traffic, so it is the most predictable ride into central Seoul.
Fares are quoted differently across recent sources (roughly ₩9,500 to ₩13,000, with online pre-booking sometimes lower, around ₩11,500). Rather than trust one number, check the current fare on the official AREX site, and look for an online-booking discount before you buy.
Two things to know before you rely on it:
- T-money does not work on the Express. You need a dedicated Express ticket. Buy it from the orange AREX machines or counter on floor B1 of the airport transportation center, or online in advance.
- Seoul Station is not your final stop for Jongno or Gangnam. You will transfer to the subway there, and the AREX-to-subway passage involves stairs and a long walk: awkward with a large suitcase.

Option 2: AREX all-stop (the cheapest rail ride)
The all-stop (commuter) AREX runs the same track but stops along the way, reaching Seoul Station in about 59 to 66 minutes for roughly ₩4,150 to 4,750: and it accepts T-money, so it is the budget rail choice. It also runs frequently.
Its stops make it a direct ride for some neighborhoods: Gimpo Airport, Digital Media City (DMC), Hongik Univ. (Hongdae), Gongdeok, and Seoul Station. If you are staying in Hongdae, this train drops you right there with no transfer, often the single easiest arrival in all of Seoul.
Gongdeok connects to subway lines 5 and 6.
The trade-off is comfort: during rush hour the all-stop can be crowded, and standing with a big case is tiring.

Option 3: Airport limousine bus (simplest when a stop is near your hotel)
The airport limousine bus is often the least stressful option if a stop sits close to your hotel, because you sit with your luggage stowed and ride straight into a city district. Standard buses cost about ₩17,000, premium (K-Limousine) about ₩18,000, and children (ages 6 to 12) about ₩11,000.
Rides take about 60 to 90 minutes, and rush hour can add 30 to 60 minutes on top. One important caveat: some routes were suspended during the pandemic and have not all been restored, so route numbers change. Do not treat any list as final.
Check the current routes on the airport bus information board or official site. As representative examples when confirmed to be running:
- 6002: Myeongdong, City Hall, Dongdaemun, Jongno direction
- 6015: Myeongdong
- 6009: Gangnam, Sinnonhyeon, Yangjae
- 6020 / 6030: Yeoksam, Gangnam Station, Express Bus Terminal, Gangnam hotels
- 6101: Hongdae

A bus stop is not your hotel's front door. Note the exact stop name and how far it is to walk, and confirm it on a map before you commit.

Option 4: Taxi (best for late nights, groups, and heavy bags)
A taxi to central Seoul runs roughly ₩65,000 to 100,000 (Gangnam is often around ₩80,000, approximate, confirm on arrival). Expressway tolls of about ₩5,500 to 7,900 are added and paid by the passenger, and a night surcharge of about 20% applies from 00:00 to 04:00. Taxis come in several types: standard, deluxe (mobeom), jumbo (van), and International Taxi (aimed at foreign visitors, English-speaking, with a fixed-fare option on some routes.

For two to four people splitting the cost, a late arrival, or a lot of luggage, a taxi can be reasonable and drops you at the door. In heavy traffic it will be slower than the train.

Best route to Jongno, Insadong, and Bukchon
Jongno, Insadong, Gwanghwamun, and Bukchon sit in Seoul's historic center, close together but full of lanes and slopes. There is no single AREX stop here, so it is usually a limousine bus (if a stop is near) or AREX to Seoul Station, then a short subway ride or taxi.

Bukchon's hanok guesthouses sit on hills and narrow lanes, so the final leg by taxi saves you from dragging a suitcase uphill. Note that Gwanghwamun sometimes has events or road closures that reroute buses. Check on the day.
Best route to Gangnam, Yeoksam, Sinnonhyeon, and COEX
"Gangnam" is not one stop. Gangnam Station, Yeoksam, Sinnonhyeon, Samseong (COEX), Apgujeong, Sinsa, and Seocho are all different places, sometimes 10 to 20 minutes apart. Decide your exact station first.
Because AREX only reaches Seoul Station, getting to Gangnam by train means a subway transfer (often line 2) with your luggage, which is hard in rush hour. So for Gangnam the practical choices are usually a direct limousine bus (if a stop is near your hotel) or a taxi.

That last row is the exception worth remembering: during a bad road rush hour, the train's immunity to traffic can beat a bus or taxi even with the transfer.

If you land late, the trains stop before long. Approximate last departures from Terminal 2: AREX Express around 22:40 (reaching Seoul Station about 23:31), and the all-stop around 23:32 (reaching Seoul Station about 00:38). After that, your options are:
- Late-night airport buses N6000, N6001, N6002, which cover Gangnam and Seoul Station directions with roughly 40 to 50-minute gaps. Buy at the kiosk; fares vary across sources, so check the current price.
- A taxi, available 24 hours from the official stand, with the ~20% night surcharge from 00:00.

Getting back to the airport
For the return, remember the reverse buffers: allow 2 hours-plus to the airport by bus in case of traffic. Seoul Station has a City Airport Terminal where passengers on some airlines (such as Korean Air, Asiana, and Jeju Air) can check in and drop bags before heading out: confirm the operating conditions officially, and note it typically closes a few hours before departure.
